The Communication and Multimedia Ministry will not compromise with those who insult or mock religion on social websites.

The minister, Ahmad Shabery Cheek, said stern action would be taken against perpetrators, if it was proven that social websites were used to touch on religious sensitivities, resulting in anger and unrest among believers.

NONE According to him, the arrest of controversial couple Alvin Tan and Vivian Lee ( left ) was a reminder that matters touching on religions could not be brought to ridicule.

"This is a warning to all parties not to mock matters pertaining to religion. It is not only non-Muslims who cannot touch on the feelings of Muslims but Muslims should also be careful not to touch on the feelings of others," he said.

Ahmad Shabery was speaking to reporters after flagging-off the Terengganu state-level Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy in Kuala Besut today.

Tan, 25, and Lee, 24, have been charged by the Sessions Court on three counts of provoking Muslims during Ramadan and displaying pornographic pictures on the website.

Don't forget PAS' failures

Ahmad Shabery also call on Kuala Besut voters to reject PAS at next Wednesday's by-election as it had failed to play its role to develop the state when ruling Terengganu during its single 1999-2004 term.

"I urge the voters to recall what PAS did when they were given the opportunity to rule Terengganu.

"I do not want to talk about development because PAS is not interested in development. There were no mosques, madrasah, religious schools and roads built at that time.

"But, we must remember how cruel they were when they chased away kindergarten pupils from schools throughout Terengganu.

"They (PAS) continue to defend their move and have never apologised to the people for their previous action," said the Kemaman member of parliament.

Ahmad Shabery warned that should PAS return to rule Terengganu in the future, there was a possibility that BN-built schools and community halls would not function for the reason they were built in the first place.

This would be in line with PAS' fervour to flaunt its power, he said.

As such, he urged leaders of PAS which ruled Terengganu at that time to make an admission of their mistakes to the public, if they regretted that incident.
