Don't compete for posts, Ku Nan tells Umno members

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor urged the party members to decide on top posts amicably through dialogues in order to prevent unhealthy competition during the branch elections from last Monday to August 30.
He said they should adhere to Article 3 of the party constitution, which among others stressed that Umno was a political party which upheld, defended and expanded Islam.
"So based on Islamic principles discuss amongst yourselves to determine who will be chief and so on," he said after breaking fast at the As-Sodiqin surau in Taman Kobena in Kuala Lumpur today.
Earlier in his speech, Tengku Adnan who is also Federal Territory minister, expressed confidence that the Chinese community in the Cheras parliamentary constituency would return to Barisan Nasional (BN) if they were given a proper explanation and reassured that the government was committed to all parties.
"Although Cheras has never contributed a seat to BN the government has always addressed the residents' concerns here," he said.
