BN today retained the Setiawangsa parliamentary seat after the Kuala Lumpur Election Court allowed a preliminary objection raised by the ruling coalition to the election petition filed by PKR.

azlan Justice Zabariah Mohd Yusof ruled that the petition filed by PKR candidate Ibrahim Yaakob was defective. With this, Ahmad Fauzi Zahari from BN remains Setiawangsa MP.

It was reported that Ibrahim had named Ahmad Fauzi along with the Election Commission and Setiawangsa returning officer as respondents.

In the petition, Ibrahim complained that the EC had failed to check on the possibility of double voting .

During the May 5 general election, Ibrahim, who is also Anwar Ibrahim's chief of staff, had lost by 1,390 votes to Ahmad Fauzi.

Ibrahim alleges that there was duplication as eight people of the same name were found in the postal voters’ list.

The PKR candidate also stated there were extra ballot papers cast during the general election compared to the ones issued by EC.

He further claimed there was a huge discrepancy between the number of postal voters with the number of votes cast from the general electorate, resulting in his defeat.

Aside the Defence Ministry, several armed forces camps are also located within the Setiawangsa constituency.

NONE Meanwhile, Justice Zabariah will rule tomorrow over the preliminary objection raised by BN over the Titiwangsa election petition filed by PAS.

She will also rule on the preliminary objection raised by PKR over the BN election petition filed against Batu MP Chua Tian Chang, or better known as Tian Chua ( above ).

Justice Zabariah, meanwhile, yesterday heard submissions over the Batu petition.
