Four charged over 'insulting Islam' kidnap case

your say Vijay47: The kidnapping case involving these four thugs have those back-to-back features under which they just cannot lose.

First of all, they used a marker pen to write on their victim that he "menghina Islam" (insulted Islam). This to conveniently camouflage their real intention to extort RM3,000.

The IGP (inspector-general of police) at once announced that these violent creatures should not be misjudged because they were only expressing their unhappiness over what somebody else did.

When PAS Youth called a spade a spade and described them as nothing more than gangsters, there was an immediate backlash from NGOs of similar criminal mentality who accused PAS Youth of going against Islam.

Secondly, when the robbers were leaving the court, they chanted "Allahuakbar" - with tears in their eyes, of course. It looks like to get out of any tight spot in Malaysia, all you have to do is play the Islam card.

No doubt the IGP and the two Alis (Ibrahim and Hasan) will again be adding their two bits' worth of support soon. And these guys say that non-Muslims are the ones who "menhina Islam".

Ferdtan: That the four suspects were charged in connection with the abduction of Ng Mun Tatt, which is said to be related to insulting Islam, is good news.

This is despite of what our IGP had said recently, without providing any valid evidence, that the case was the result of the Alvivi's insult of the religion in their blog.

At least good sense prevails in the AG's Chambers when they decided to charge the kidnapping suspects of Ng Mun Tatt. Was it due to the loud outcry from the public, or the incriminating evidence was so overwhelming that there is no way the police/AG can avoid/delay from doing their duties?

We hope this is the lesson to be learnt by all, namely politicians, that not all ordinary matters can be a fair game to be capitalised for their twisted political purposes. I hope this is the end of the nightmare for Mun Tatt.

Nobody in Malaysia, in the right mind, wants to be accused (especially unfairly) of insulting Islam when there are many Umno's ‘Islam-defender' extremists lurking around.

Malaysiawatch4: This is a sad case when four young Malaysians may get the death penalty. Maybe society and national leaders are to be blamed when we allow some religious extremists to create trouble and yet get away without any police action or response from the top leaders.

We encourage irresponsible behaviour and some people do not know that what they are doing is a capital offence. All in the name of religion?

Abasir: These arrogant punks dripping with entitlement who screamed "Allahuakbar" when leaving the court reminded me of the kidnapper-rapist-murderer of Canny Ong who donned the white skullcap to prove his Islamic credentials when he was brought to court.

For some twisted reason, these individuals (and there are many of them) believe that demonstrating their perversion in this manner will help mask the crime while gaining sympathy from those similarly inclined.

Is this not an insult to God? Will the Islamic authority ban the chanting of this holy word under such circumstances?

Odin: First, the tears shed by those dregs of the human race were doubtless of self pity or they were produced to elicit sympathy. Second, only idiots would believe that they did what they have done because of the Alvivi couple's so-called insult to Islam.

I refuse to believe that. Anyone with brains between his ears and which are functioning normally can tell that they did what they have done simply to extort money to finance their substance-abusing habits; and they picked on someone young and not strong enough to put up a good fight.

And uttering ‘Allahuakbar' was certainly just for show.

AF McLaren: What has "God is Great" got to do with kidnapping, ransom and assault? It was just a red herring created by these blighters to throw the police off their trail.

Dood: What rubbish is this? Is kidnapping someone then demanding ransom part of Islam's teaching? This is more like some people taking advantage of the situation for personal gain.

If it is indeed true that these misguided four did think that they were doing the Islamic thing, then it just goes to show how wayward Umno-BN's brand of governance and extremist portrayal of Islam has led to our sorry state today.

We are not living in the tribal belt in Pakistan's Wazaristan province. Please send this four idiots to the Taliban in Pakistan where they can find heaven there. No need to punish them, I will pay for their passage by air.

Slumdog: Kidnapping is a serious crime and incurs severe penalties if found guilty. There is no better example of selective special kid-glove treatment depending on who you are.

Hindraf leader P Uthayakumar rots in jail and has been denied medical treatment for a painful prolapsed disc.

However, two of the four youths charged in connection with the kidnapping of Ng Mun Tatt were granted permission by the magistrate to receive medical attention for a swollen hand and swollen lip. This is Umno-style justice.

Joker: Kidnapping and extortion in the name of religion - it's a wonder not even one mufti stood up to condemn them. In addition to kidnapping, they should be charged with sedition, defamation, gross indecency, assault and extortion.

Hplooi: I can already foresee it. Religion will be dragged into court. There will be no winners. Ultimately dark forces promoting division will be the winner.
