In the continuing imbroglio surrounding Transparency-International Malaysia (TI-M), Josie Fernandez said the latest records with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) proves she is still the legitimate secretary-general of the organisation.

NONE Fernandez (left ) today furnished an email from the ROS’ online system dated today as confirming her status as the present secretary-general.

Fernandez told Malaysiakini today that she received further confirmation verbally from the secretary of the Selangor ROS director’s office this morning that the email details from the system are correct.

At its last Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on July 20 the NGO claimed the new secretary-general as Loi Kheng Min and produced a similar printout from ROS as proof.

According to Fernandez, that change of record was made via the Putrajaya ROS office.

Records changed

She asked how the Putrajaya office could change the record to reflect Loi as the new secretary-general, when TI-M is registered under ROS Selangor.

The ROS record today appears to have reversed the change, by listing Loi now as the 'previous' secretary-general.

At a press conference yesterday, Fernandez said ROS Selangor is launching an internal inquiry into the matter.

The confusion over secretary-general's position is the latest twist in TI-M's leadership problems following the sudden resignation of Paul Low as the organisation's president to take up a position as a federal minister.

Earlier this month, Fernandez failed in her bid to be elected as TI-M president and was supposed to resign during an EGM two weeks later as secretary-general. She did not do so because Loi had already declared that he had already assumed the position.

Yesterday, Fernandez said that this "dual registration" situation had been explained to a senior official with ROS Selangor, who, according to her, described the situation as an "abuse of procedure" and promised an inquiry.
