If all goes well, the Owe$ome team will make an awesome appearance in Silicon Valley. Fresh from winning the Malaysian AngelHack competition, the team is set to contest at the global level come September.

Owe$ome is mobile application to help friends and colleagues 'split the bill'.

"As colleagues, we grab lunch together. Normally, one of us picks up the tab. It’s a bit of a headache trying to split the bill later and collect from each person.

NONE “With the Owe$ome, just snap a picture of the bill and tag your friends. They will automatically get cute reminders to contribute,” explained Joann Soon, the founder and creative director of the Owe$ome app.

Although there are other similar apps around, the Owe$ome app uses humour and localised fun stuff to make the app popular.

"We've used some interesting graphics and fun ideas to make the app really engaging and far better than what is available," said design head Tan Sue Lin.

Having beat 30 others team at the Malaysian level, the Owe$ome team is off to compete in San Francisco, if sufficient funds are raised.

"As the winner of AngelHack Malaysia, we get two tickets to San Francisco. But the team would like all six members to go and learn from the best in the world. We need about RM25,000 for tickets, food and board," said Soon.

Malaysiakini makes donation

Malaysiakini has donated RM500 to the Owe$ome team. Local coaching company AllStars Accelerator Sdn Bhd also donated RM500.

"We are happy to support young entrepreneurs. We hope the Owe$ome team does awesomely in the United States," said Malaysiakini CEO Premesh Chandran.

NONE AngelHack is an event which seeks to empower entrepreneurs and accelerate their startup ideas.

"I’m glad we could help kick start new startups on their entrepreneurial journey. All the best to the Owe$ome team and we hope they would learn as much as possible from the Valley and win it all,” said K Yuwarajan, director of AllStars.
