Three former top officials of a subsidiary of a government-linked company were detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last night to assist with a probe into alleged abuse of power involving a multi-million ringgit food industry project.

NONE According to MACC investigations director Mustafar Ali ( right ), the trio, all in their 50s, held the positions of director, chief operating officer and chief executive officer of the GLC subsidiary respectively.

“They were released on bail after their statements were taken,” he said in a statement late last night.

The trio, who were arrested in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, were released on a bail of RM500,000 each.

Mustafar said that the trio's arrest completes the anti-graft body's investigations into the case, which is believed to bear similarities to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) case involving the family members of former cabinet minister Shahrizat Abdul Jalil ( below, centre in photo ).

NONE It was earlier reported that the MACC are investigating a food supply project which never came to be despite RM30 million already having been disbursed by banks and the said GLC.

It is believed that the project began several years ago and faced difficulties in its initial stages.

MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed, when asked by media, did not deny that the case is connected to another recent high profile case.

It is believed that the ongoing case involves several top officials in the civil and private sector.
