Perkasa has called for the outright ban of ‘The New Village' movie if it indeed contains elements that glorify communism.

NONE "If the film contains subversive elements, promotes or glorifies the Communist Party of Malaya (CPM), be it directly or indirectly, then it is appropriate for the film to be banned all together from being screened," Selangor Perkasa chief Abu Bakar Yahya ( right ) was quoted as saying in Utusan Malaysia today.

He added that any effort to portray the CPM as freedom fighters is an attempt to distort historical facts.

Meanwhile, Ex-servicemen Association (PBTM) deputy chairperson Captain (Rtd) Sharuddin Omar said former military men like himself, viewed any material deemed to promote communism very seriously.

"CPM had triggered a tumultuous situation and engaged in armed violence. As veteran soldiers, we know the pain and suffering during the era of CPM's violence that the new generation does not.

"If CPM are supposedly fighters for the country, then what are we who have fought all out, including losing our comrades, in the war against CPM to maintain peace in the country?" he said.

The film's maker had on Facebook explained that ‘The New Village' is a forbidden love story set in the Communist era.
