Two men pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court in Petaling Jaya today to a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt on a doctor in a robbery two weeks ago.

P Sharves, 22, and S Kanthavellu, 20, are charged with committing the offence by severing a finger on the left hand of Dr Delaila Ahmad, 59, with a machete at 1.20am last July 16.

The charge, under Section 326 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment for 20 years and is liable to a fine or whipping, if found guilty.

Judge Yasmin Abdul Razak allowed them bail of RM8,000 in one surety each.

They are also ordered to report themselves at the nearest police station once a month and to not harass or go near the victim and witness.

Meanwhile, in a Sessions Court presided by Judge Rozina Ayob, Sharves and Kanthavellu are charged with robbing Dr Delaila of RM18,000 at the same place, date and time.

She allowed them bail of RM8,000 and with the condition the father of the first accused and the mother of the second accused stood as the guarantors.

Both the cases are set for mention on Aug 22.

Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Dalira Din prosecuted in the robbery case, while DPP Dhiya Syazwani Izyan Mohd Akhir prosecuted in the other case.

Both the accused are represented by lawyer S Siva Ganish.
