There are reportedly undercurrents pushing for PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to be the party's next president at the upcoming party polls slated to be held before May next year.

Posters that read "Azmin for president! We don't need a ‘sleeping beauty'" have been spotted around Kuala Lumpur, according to Utusan Malaysia today.

"An internal informant says that although he was not appointed as (Selangor) Menteri Besar, his influence within PKR is growing.

"Azmin is seen as being capable of bringing change to the party and break the PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim family's grip on the party," said the report by Awang Selamat.

Wan Azizah is Anwar's wife and Nurul Izzah's mother.

"The question now is whether Anwar is prepared to accept Azmin as president, meaning that his power would be eroded?

"Or how strong is Azmin's resolve; would he be persuaded otherwise by Anwar? We shall wait and see," said Awang.
