A mystery letter alleging corrupt practice by opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and DAP chairperson Karpal Singh is now in the hands of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Mazlan Ismail, the former Permatang Pauh candidate for Umno, said he approached the MACC so that it can investigate the contents of the eight-page letter, according to an Utusan Malaysia report today.

“As I have said before, I do not want to have anything to do with the contents of the letter, but the rakyat want the authorities to investigate in the public interest,” he was quoted as saying in the Umno-owned daily.

On Friday, Mazlan claimed he had received some 6,000 reports after the letter entitled ‘Bankleaks Anwar/Karpal’ was anonymously distributed in Permatang Pauh where Anwar is MP.

Yesterday, Anwar and Karpal had lodged a police report over the matter.

They described the contents of the letter which alleged Karpal received some RM50 million from Anwar for legal fees as well as to bribe judges and prosecutors as a “fabrication”.

Karpal had said that he would also file a lawsuit against Mazlan for going public with a “baseless” allegation.

Responding to this in the report, Mazlan said the two had a right to take whatever action they deemed fit.
