DAP national chairperson Karpal Singh has urged his Pakatan Rakyat comrades to declare their assets, to follow the lead of the Penang government.

He said he was willing to do so and asked PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang to declare theirs, too.

He added that all Pakatan Rakyat leaders, whether state executive councillors, MPs, assemblypersons or municipal councils should also do so.

"I have been a strong advocate of this exercise. We are in public life, we must be prepared to be scrutinised by the public and voters when you are in office," said Karpal, who is also Bukit Gelugor MP.

"I speak on behalf of DAP, the secretary-general should direct all state excos, elected MPs and Assemblymen to declare their assets," he added.

NONE On his part, Karpal ( left ) said he was waiting for Chief Minister and DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng to fix a date for him (Karpal) to declare his assets publicly.

"He did not demand it of me but I am waiting for him to set a date for me so I can declare my assets," said Karpal at a press conference in Air Itam, during one of his constituency visits.

He reiterated that while he was willing to declare his assets, he will not entertain any demands from " inconsequential and irrelevant personalities " for him to do so.

He added that the exercise needed time as certified auditors must give the nod to the accounts.

He criticised BN's Balik Pulau MP Hilmi Yahaya who said there was no need to follow Penang's example because all BN elected reps declare their assets to Prime Minister Najib Razak.

"You don't declare to the PM but to the public. This should include the PM himself. Hilmi should get his perspective right," said Karpal.
