The Kelantan police have set up a special team to investigate an incident in which a package exploded, killing a primary school clerk in Tumpat yesterday.

The team is headed by Tumpat police deputy chief DSP Shariffuddin Yusof.

“We have sent some samples gathered from the scene to the Chemistry Department,” he told reporters at the state police contingent headquarters in Kota Baru today.

In the 11am incident, Mohd Yusrizal Mat Zain, 32, who worked at SRK Manek Urai, Kuala Krai, was killed on the spot when a package he retrieved from the roof of a multi-purpose vehicle exploded.

The incident occurred at the compound of his in-laws’ house in Taman Seri Periok, Kampung Periok.

On the second explosion which was heard at 4.40pm yesterday, Mazlan said it was not caused by remnants of explosives from the first incident, but by garbage in a polystyrene container.
