Police have warned members of the public against harbouring the main suspect in the murder of Arab Malaysian Development Bank (AmBank) founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi as they can be charged.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said anyone harbouring the suspect can be charged according to Section 212 of the Penal Code for harbouring or concealing a wanted offender.

"The police are still gathering information to arrest the suspect. We are made to understand the suspect is still in the country and has changed his appearance, which includes shaving his mustache," he said at a news conference at the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

The main suspect, Kong Swee Kwan, 44, who was previously known as Sei Ngan Chai or Ah Chian, is now being sought by police after he was believed to have shot Hussain, 75, and his wife Chong Mei Kuen, 49, at the carpark of a Chinese temple in Lorong Ceylon in Kuala Lumpur on July 29.

Hussain died on the spot after sustaining two shots to his chest, while his wife sustained injuries on the left wrist and right thigh.

Following the incident, police detained four suspects including two women believed to be able to shed light on the case.

Meanwhile, at the same news conference, Ku said eight men who were remanded for claiming themselves as legitimate heirs to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will be  referred to the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department.

He said based on police investigations, the group, which claimed to be members of the 'Kumpulan Panji Hitam Dari Timur Empayar Langkasuka Nusantara' were not a threat to national security as they were more of a deviant group.

"After their remand ends this Saturday, they will be referred to the religious department," he said.

In the Aug 5 incident, 10 suspects including a woman and child clad in all black were detained by police upon arrival at the palace grounds at 4.10am.

Subsequently, the eight men including its leader, 40, were remanded for a week while a 52-year-old woman, who is the wife of the gang leader, and their daughter, 11, were remanded for two days.
