The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has denied that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is seeking a unity government with Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, saying that media reports of such talks are merely “a figment of the writer’s imagination”.

“Talks for a unity government are impossible especially since Anwar and the Pakatan Rakyat leadership still refuses to accept the outcome of the 13th general election and continues to question it,” said a PMO press statement released today.

NONE It said reports carried by an online news portal, which is unnamed in the statement, are malicious.

The statement is apparently in response to a report published on the Asia Sentinal on Monday, quoting Anwar confirming that Najib is seeking unity talks with him, with former Indonesian vice-president Jusuf Kalla ( right ) as an intermediary.

However, the PMO said that no efforts towards a unity government were made at all.

Instead, it said that Jusuf had helped broker a deal between Najib and Anwar before the general election that both would accept the people’s decision at the ballot box.

“However, Anwar refused to do so and claimed that there was cheating in the 13th general election process.

“Therefore, Anwar’s statement confirming that there are new overtures towards forming a unity government is fictitious in the interests of the opposition especially its leader,” it said.
