Najib 'indulging in lies' to destroy us, says DAP

DAP's chief Whip Anthony Loke Siew Fook ( below ) today accused the Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of being willing to "lie and slander" in order to "destroy DAP".

He was referring to Najib's statement reported in yesterday's Utusan Malaysia that 753 of DAP's delegates were not informed about last December's party elections.

"Najib has legitimised the lies that have been spread for months by Umno's propaganda agents by making this statement," Loke said in a statement today.

He pointed out that it had never been proven by the Registrar of Societies that DAP had denied 753 delegates the opportunity to take part in the party polls.

"This is a baseless allegation that was never proven because ROS never gave any reasons behind their decision to instruct DAP to re-elect its CEC," Loke said.

"Evidence of party election notice sent by post to all delegates had been sent to ROS but ROS never took this into consideration," he added.

Loke was prepared to "openly" furnish the proof so that the "court of public opinion" can decide whether DAP was guilty or Najib was lying.

Earlier this week, DAP reluctantly accepted ROS' directive for a CEC re-election  even though ROS never furnished any reason behind its decision.

ROS had been probing DAP since the turn of the year, after allegations of discrepancies during the party's polls last December cropped up, where a supposed "computer glitch" caused the mistabulation of votes, leading to a change in the CEC lineup after recount.

'Umno plays by rules?'

Meanwhile DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng blasted the PM for regurgitating “lies” printed in the mainstream media.

“Najib is repeating the lies of Utusan Malaysia , New Straits Times and a vicious fictitious account by one Father Augustus Chen who does not even exist...

“Even the ROS knows that this is a lie,” he said in a statement today.

Lim said ROS refused to give any reasons for its demands “because it has no valid reasons whatsoever to give”.

He also took a swipe at Najib’s claim that Umno is a “credible political party that played by the rules” reminding the PM of the infamous deregistration of the ruling party in 1989.

“If so then why was Umno ordered to be deregistered by the High Court in 1989 after an application by Umno members for malpractices and not playing by the rules during the 1987 party elections?”
