It was PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, not Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who had supposedly initiated the talks for a unity government, according to a Utusan Malaysia report today.

It quotes the blog RBF Online claiming Anwar extended the offer during the last Ramadan, laying out three conditions.

That he would become deputy prime minister with four PKR parliamentarians appointed ministers.

Meanwhile, Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim would receive the boot to be replaced by a person of Najib's choice.

NONE Anwar ( righ t) had allegedly persuaded a reluctant former Indonesian vice-president Jusuf Kalla to serve as intermediary, and he arrived with three others in Kuala Lumpur at 8.20pm on July 28 in his private aircraft bearing registration number PK-JKM.

However, Najib had purportedly rejected all three conditions.

"After meeting Najib, Jusuf delivered the news to Anwar immediately and flew back in the same aircraft on the following day," the Malay-language daily quoted the blog as saying.

Checks by Malaysiakini found that plane said to be belonging to Jusuf is in fact a twin-engine jet registered to the Jakarta-based chartered airline company Nusantara Air Charter. Other information could not be verified at this point.

Previously, the online news portal Asia Sentinel had posted a report quoting Anwar saying that Najib was initiating talks for a unity government with him through Jusuf.

However, yesterday the Prime Minister's Office had issued a press statement flatly denying whole affair.
