The Automated Enforcement System (AES) will be status quo, until all aspects of the system have been discussed, acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said today.

He said the decision was made at an Economic Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today.

"We will not make any drastic decisions until all angles are thought through by the Ministry of Transport and those involved directly.

NONE "And today, we have involved the leadership and other agencies, including the Finance Ministry and Bank Negara.

"We want to handle it in an inclusive and transparent manner and keep the public safe on the road," Hishammuddin told reporters at the Rural and Regional Development Ministry's Aidilfitri open house at Wisma Felcra in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the hot topic among Malaysians was not an easily resolved issue but gave his assurance that it would be decided in a manner fair to all quarters.

Last July, Hishammuddin said the AES summonses were still in force despite the postponed prosecution process and that the summonses should be settled because they were issued in accordance with the law.

However, on Aug 2, he said the summonses would be discussed in further detail after Hari Raya, and also stressed that the AES speed trap operations would still be conducted by the Road Transport Department and police.

The AES system, among others, aims to reduce road accidents and so far is operational at 14 locations in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
