Kedah police are in the process of identifying the remaining members of the ‘04' secret society in the state.

Kedah police chief Ahmad Ibrahim said since the launch of Ops Cantas on Aug 18, police had detained 58 secret society suspects, among them members of the 04 gang.

He said the operation would be carried out continuously at places frequented by the gang, such as Baling, Sungai Petani and Kulim.

“If we don’t do so, they will make a comeback. At the moment police have questioned 335 people and inspected 356 vehicles used by secret society members and criminals,” he told reporters at a police operation in Jitra early today.

He said investigation papers had been opened on the 58 suspects.

Last Aug 19, five members of the 04 gang were shot dead after a shootout during a police raid at an apartment in Jalan Pantai Jerejak, Penang at 4.45am.

The five, in their 20s and 30s, were believed to have been involved in at least 10 shooting cases in Penang this year.

Meanwhile, Ahmad said since the launch of Ops Cantas, crime cases in the state had reduced by 14 percent.
