The special committee on corruption (JKMR) has suggested for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act to be updated to allow prosecution against local and foreign companies for offences committed by their employees.     

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed said there was a need to do so because there were employees who committed corruption for the benefit of their companies.     

"To make companies more responsible, there has to be a corporate liability provision in the law," he said when closing a corruption risk management programme with the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) in Kuala Lumpur today.     

He said the corporate liability had to be extended to cover the private sector so that the companies were more sensitive in ensuring their business entities were corruption free.     

He said it was the responsibility of every employees to report any dubious transactions, corrupt practises, misappropriation and power abuse to MACC do that further action could be taken.    

On the corruption risk management, he said, it was an approach to assist organisations, like CIDB, to enhance its regulation on implementation of activities to prevent corruption.
