your say Still Thinking Of A Nickname: If there weren't so many trigger-happy police in the past; and if there weren't too many deaths in custody recently, if Altantuya Shaariibuu was not killed by the police, and if the IGP (inspector-general of police) did not lie, we may praise the PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) for the killing of the five suspected gangsters in Penang.

But now, who trusts them?

MY Kee: Basically, those criminals with guns are guilty. I would rather these crooks get killed than PDRM get killed trying to apprehend them. Good job, PDRM.

Ferdtan: This is frightening. If well-informed readers can accept the justification that the police can be the judge, jury and executioner, then what has our civil society come to?

Some who had been victims of robbery even went as far as to say that it is all right to kill them without mercy, and without due process.

People, take time to reflect on the action of the police who shot the five suspects. When we criticise the police for being too trigger happy, it is not to say that we don't support the police.

We all support the effort of the police to combat crime but they should do it without losing their credibility.

The mere fact that the suspects were allegedly hardcore criminals does not  justify police killing them. What happens if the police made the mistake? What if these men turned out to be innocent? Are we going to say, "Oops, we erred?"

Rasional: What Penang Deputy Chief Minister P Ramasamy said is right. The Indians were marginalised for 56 years. They were chased out from the estates and having nowhere to go, they turned to crime for survival.

If only the government had given land to them like the Felda scheme, I am sure they would be tending their land. But unfortunately, the BN government has been practicing discrimination against other races.

Now the children of these estate labourers become targets of the police in the name of combating crime.

Krissman: Shoot first, ask questions later - that's the PDRM style, especially when it comes to Indian Malaysians. PDRM is the prosecutor, defence attorney and the judge all in one.

They could have apprehended them and put them on trial. If found guilty, then hang them according to the law. The least is give them a chance to surrender and if they don't, then use force.

PDRM has such a tarnished image to begin with. Therefore, anything they do will always be viewed with suspicion.

Jega Muthu: The blatant display of the gang symbols at the funeral parade does not help the cause of the deceased that they were not involved in criminal activities.

While any loss of life is regrettable, the number of violent crimes is alarming, and unfortunately many involved are Indians.

The claim of solving the high number of murders with this killing just sounds too incredible to be believed given that dead men tell no tales.

Not Confused: It is obvious that the PDRM is under considerable pressure to reduce crime generally, despite their lame claims that the irise in crime is mere perception.

However, to respond by appointing themselves as investigators as well as judges and now executioners is not the way to gain the support and respect of the rakyat.

Extrajudicial executions are more usual in third-world dictatorships, not mature democracies.

Anonymous_VV: The police have done a good job, just wipe out all criminals whatever their nationality. Now will the police stand up for the Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC)?

Why are the ‘rogue gangsters' in the police force object to this commission?

Headhunters: If intelligence in the possession of the police indeed showed the five were indeed gangsters or gang members and were hired killers involved in murder cases in Penang, Kedah and Negeri Sembilan, then the police should have surrounded the house where the five were shot and killed, and arrested and interrogated them for information on their other gang members and most important of all, for information as to who hired them to commit the said murders or attempted murders in the three states.

By simply killing them, how are the police going to get information to enable them to arrest those who hired them to commit the murders.

Well Thats Fantastic: Three guns and five dead bodies don't add up at all - that means the police shot two unarmed men, doesn't it?

Onyourtoes: We condemn criminals, but the greatest culprits are criminals and their ‘prostitute' sidekicks masquerading in three-piece suits that walk in our corridors of power.

They now justifying the police action not because they know for sure the action was correct, but they did it so that they can continue drinking French wine and eating caviar.
