Church fails to strike out appeal on 'Allah' word

your say Paul Warren: The judgment is to be expected. The judges had no choice, really (in Archbishop Murphy Piakam's application to strike out the government's appeal over the use of the word ‘Allah' in the Bahasa Malaysia version of the Bible).

Now the real game begin. And that will prove once and for all what I think this whole thing is about.

Black Panthar : What can we expect from a panel of entirely Muslim judges? Since the case involves two religions, the bench should have rightfully comprised a mix of judges from both sides.

Freethinker: The result was already known the moment the Home Ministry filed their appeal and all the hoohah done by them since.

Everyone should have known better what the result would be in the appellate court. It's Umnosia after GE13, after all.

And with the heat that is going on outside the court (with protests by Perkasa and other right-wing groups), can we expect a different result? You can imagine what would happen if the judge accepted the archbishop's appeal and granted a strike out.

Headhunters: So can we still trust PM Najib Razak? What happened to his 10-point promise made before the last Sarawak election in 2011? What has senator Idris Jala got to say about those promises now?

Come the next Sarawak election in two years' time, Najib and BN will surely recycle the promises again. And don't be surprise, the Christians in Sarawak will be voting for BN as usual.

God gave us brains to think and the assurances that he will provide our needs if we put our faith/trust in him. But some Christian voters will put their faith and trust in Najib/BN - to give them BR1M.

Crowd gathers as court hears 'Allah' appeal

Abasir: It was a safe bet that the Court of Appeals would not commit to making any decision, and allow the application by the government. The reason? Well, there is this little thing called ‘conviction' that is sadly lacking in our judiciary.

Disgusted: It looks like these troublemaker groups outside the court were forcing the hand of the court in the judgment.

If the court had found in favour of the Christians, they might take to the streets and cause trouble as they always have. Christians, on the other hand, would be on the receiving side with church defilement and burning.

So the court would rather take the safe way out than to ‘hurt' the feelings of these extremist elements.

All blame should fall on Umno and former home minister Syed Hamid Albar who had created this issue in the first place, and now it has gone out of control. The only losers will be the economy of the country and our social system.

MM MM: The pressure groups assembled at the Palace of Justice are misguided and should focus on the thousands of single mothers with children abandoned by their fathers without monetary support due to the high divorce rates.

These groups should form a lobby group to make Muslim fathers financially responsible for maintaining their offsprings rather than leave their ex-wives in dire straits.

Not Confused: This issue has nothing to do with Islam - it is just the Muslim extremists who always feel compelled to go out to the streets to ‘defend' their religion. From what?

They are deluded if they think they can stop anyone from using any word - particularly one that is in common use throughout the world by Muslims and non-Muslims alike.

I think this whole argument is the most amusing that I've ever witnessed. Those supposedly defending their ‘rights' are just demonstrating their total lack of logic and their low mentality.

In Malaysia, the Muslim extremists have been bullying not only Christians but other religions since former PM Abdul Razak's time, but it has become worse under former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad's time.

The Christians in this country have always give in, in the name of maintaining peace. Is this fair?
