A flash flood which occurred after a heavy downpour yesterday inundated 300 houses in five housing areas and villages in Kulim.

Kulim police chief Supt Ghuzlan said Taman Seri Kulim was the worst-hit housing area with about 200 houses were under 1.2 metres of waters at the height of the floods.

He said other areas affected were Kampung Padang Tembak, Kampung Darulaman (Jalan Tunku Bendahara), Kampung Siam, Kampung Bukit Sarang Ayam and Jalan Bukit Ladang.

There were no casualties in the floods which occurred after a heavy rain that started at 4pm, he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, Kulim Fire and Rescue Station head Ahmad Ridwan Yahya said 12 men were deployed to assist flood victims in Kampung Padang Tembak and Jalan Bukit Lada since 6pm.

The Kulim-Baling Expressway at Km23 near an Inokom factory has been reopened after it was cut off from 5pm to 8pm as it was inundated.
