All 13 Umno divisions in Penang have pledged unanimous support for the party's top two leaders.

They want Umno president Najib Abdul Razak and his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin to keep their posts in the upcoming party polls.

NONE "Twelve divisions chiefs attended today's meeting. Former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi sent a representative. The decision is unanimous," said state Umno liaison committee chief Zainal Abidin Osman ( right ).

When asked why local leaders were fully backing the duo, Zainal said both leaders successfully led Umno to capture the most seats (88) in the last general election.

"DAP was second with 38 seats, the difference is 50 seats," he said.

He said Umno did better in the May 5 polls compared to its previous performance in 2008, where the party only managed to garner 79 seats.

The 2008 elections was led by Abdullah, who resigned in 2009 after much pressure from within Umno, for Najib take over the president's post.

"If we compare Umno's performance to other Malay based parties, it is still the best as PAS only won 21 seats in the last elections," he added.
