Umno division chiefs in Selangor who had failed to secure victories for BN in the last general election should not defend their posts in the upcoming Umno elections.

Selangor Umno liaison chief Noh Omar said that this is to provide room for new blood to improve the party.

"Umno does not belong to the division chiefs. Our leadership as division chiefs is only to develop Umno and ensure the party's victory.

"So I feel there is no use for division chiefs who failed to secure victory for the party, even if the person has been in the position for many terms...give a chance to someone else with new ideas," he was reported as saying by Utusan Malaysia.

Noh, who is also Tanjong Karang MP, added that it is better for the leaders to bow out respectfully to ensure the party's sustainability.

Noh, who was appointed Umno liaision chief after the 13th general election, also reiterated his promise to resign this post and the Tanjong Karang division chief post if BN failed to secure Selangor in the next general election.

"I will have to make room for someone new, it's a matter of principle. Leaders come and go, this is not important. The party must be sustainable.

"Don't let the party rot and be rejected by the people because of some leaders," he reportedly said.
