Former Transparency International-Malaysia secretary general Josie Fernandez says her membership termination goes against the very principle of transparency the NGO represents.

"The recent actions taken by six members of the executive committee of TI-M leading up to the termination of my membership impinges on the very core of what the society is meant to represent, namely, the observance of due process and transparency by decision makers.

"Various matters of concern affecting internal management of the society arose recently which are pending determination by the appropriate bodies," she said, adding that the exco's move can be construed as "a pre-judgement of these issues".

Among these issues are the validity of the July 20 extraordinary general meeting and the valid TI-M secretary general, as recognised by the Registrar of Societies' (ROS), she said in a statement today.

She added that for all intents and purposes, the ROS has recognised her as secretary general on Jul 25.

NONE According to Fernandez ( right ), the ROS is conducting an inquiry into TI-M"s affairs including issues surrounding the said EGM.

The NGO yesterday announced their decision to terminate Fernandez' membership following a show cause letter issued on Aug 16, to which the latter responded on Aug 28.

She maintains that the issue of the NGO's secretary general is still "inconclusive" and denied the exco's allegations that she had sought to have ROS change the legitimate secretary general to her name.

That, she explained, was her statutory obligation in filing the AGM returns pertaining to the NGO's AGM of April 28 in which she was made secretary general.

"The entire basis of the complaints listed in the show cause letter ... hinges on my actions taken in furtherance of my duties and responsibilities as the secretary general of the society at the material time..." she lamented.

She added that some members are calling for a EGM to nullify the July 20 one, among others.

"As provided by the constitution of the society, I have requested that the matter of my suspension and termination ... be put before the EGM for consideration by the members," she said.
