The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) is to build 4,000 units of houses annually for second and third generation settlers to bring the number to 20,000 units over the next five years, said Felda chairperson Mohd Isa Abdul Samad.  

isa samad 061009 smile He said the construction of the houses would prevent the second and third generation settlers from leaving the land scheme and, at the same time, resolve their housing problem.

“Many of the 1.6 million new generation of Felda settlers do not intend to migrate elsewhere if their housing problem is overcome,” he told reporters after launching a programme organised by the Felda Foundation in Felda Kemelah in Labis yesterday.

In his speech, Mohd Isa advised the Felda community against being influenced by those who belittle Felda and incite them to leave the land scheme.  

He said the community should remain united so that the number of settlers did not dwindle and Felda could maintain its status as a large-scale development scheme.
