A man was fined RM500, in default a month’s jail, by the magistrate’s court in Johor Baru today for causing hurt to a former Taman Nesa DAP publicity secretary last March.

Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias handed down the sentence on P Bala, 56, who pleaded guilty to an alternative charge.

Bala, together with two other persons still at large, were charged with voluntarily causing hurt on K Murugan, 42, at Jalan Inang 2, Taman Skudai Baru in Johor Baru at about 9.20pm last March 31.

The offence, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment of up to a year or fine of up to RM2,000, if found guilty.

Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Fithril Hakim Ab Jalil, while Bala was represented by lawyer M Manogaran.

Bala paid the fine.
