PAS should break its alliance with DAP and PKR because neither are interested in its Islamic agenda, said political analyst Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah.

NONE “I don’t think the opposition coalition can be a place for PAS to proselytise because PKR and DAP never changed their stance towards Islam.

“PKR does not want Islam to become (a) policy, whereas DAP openly rejects Islam,” he claimed in his column in Utusan Malaysia today.

He was responding to the resolutions of a conference of PAS ulamas on Saturday, which among others, called on the PAS central working committee and syura council to review the party’s Tahaaluf Siyaasi (political coalition) in Pakatan Rakyat.

Ridhuan added that PAS should seek cooperation with Umno instead, since it wants more Muslims in Malaysia and is currently facing dire straits.

“Can’t this ‘dire’ situation be manipulated in Islam’s interest? Can’t political coalition be better carried out here than (with) the opponents of Islam?” he said.

He added that the two parties do not need to merge, but only work together on issues of religion, race, and country.
