The Health Ministry’s decision to not recognise undergraduate medical programmes offered by Ukraine’s Crimea State Medical University (CSMU) will remain in force since the university has failed to meet the accreditation criteria.

Deputy Health Minister Dr Hilmi Yahya said so far the university has not appealed against the decision to not recognise medical programmes offered by the university.

“Based on a visit by the Malaysian Medical Council’s (MMC) visit and findings, the government is satisfied that programmes offered by CSMU do not meet the accreditation criteria that was set,” he said when answering a question by M Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat) in the Dewan Rakyat today.

The MMC had withdrawn the recognition accorded to CSMU in 2005 with the support of the government, to ensure Malaysian students studying there would not be affected.

Dr Hilmi said CSMU can deal directly with MMC if the university was interested in reviving the accreditation.
