"We will not bow to others. We will sign in on our own terms," International Trade and Industries Minister Mustapa Mohamed (

) reiterated today in replying Dr Marcus Mojigoh (BN-Putatan) during Question Time.
Mustapa also urged those opposing the agreement not to hold any demonstrations when US President Barack Obama visits the country next month.
“There have been more than enough demonstrations in the past. And we have not made any decision yet (about signing),” Mustapa said.
Many quarters have expressed fears that Obama’s visit could be seen as a way to ramp up pressure on the Malaysian government to sign the TPPA, which many fear would spike up medicine and healthcare prices in the country, among others.
He also said that state governments are free to join in in any engagement sessions undertaken by his ministry in regards to TPPA.
“In the engagement we had on Sept 10, we had answered all the questions that were posed to us,” he said.
“The state governments can come and join such engagement sessions,” he added.
