Anger is brewing within the DAP again, just days before fresh elections are held for central executive committee (CEC) posts in compliance with an order by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

NONE The party’s legal bureau head Gobind Singh Deo has taken exception to comments attributed to registrar Abdul Rahman Othman in a Bernama report yesterday.

Abdul Rahman reportedly said the ROS has repeatedly asked the DAP to conduct the CEC re-election according to its constitution.

He is further quoted as saying that the party must hold a national congress - giving the stipulated notice - rather than the ‘special congress’ scheduled for Sunday.

Countered Gobind in a statement: "Why is Abdul Rahman making statements like this a day before the issue is due to be decided in the High Court? I advise (him) to be careful. As a head of department, he must understand and respect the law.

"... If there is a complaint, he must inform us and ask us for an explanation before making any kind of decision. I want to ask him: Did he follow this procedure? If not, why? And does he have the power to make decisions this way?"

Gobind was referring to an injunction filed by former Ladang Paroi DAP branch deputy chairperson A David Dass to bar the CEC elections, due to alleged breach of the party's constitution.
