PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd is expected to sign a franchise agreement with the University of Hull, United Kingdom, next month to set up a university in Batu Kawan, Penang.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the University of Hull would establish its School of Engineering, Law, Accountancy and Logistics on about two hectares of land in Batu Kawan.
“I was informed by the PKT chairperson Jalilah Baba that the project known as One Auto Hub will comprise several components such as automotive logistics facilities, warehouse, the ship campus, lighthouse hotel, pavilion, jetty and mangrove walk or animal sanctuary,” he told reporters after a meeting with PKT group chief executive and managing director Michael Tio in George Town today.
Lim said in leveraging the demand from existing industries in Penang, the ship campus would cover pre-university programmes, degree and post-graduate studies in electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, business, logistics, accountancy and law.
However, he said the faculties and courses were subject to the final approval from the Education Ministry.
Meanwhile, Tio, who declined to elaborate, said further announcements on the project would be made at the signing ceremony on Oct 10.
