Three people died in a collision between an express bus and a trailer lorry at Km45.9 of the North-South Expressway near Sedenak about 5.50 this morning.

The deceased were bus driver R Shashi Umar, 23 from Bemban, Malacca, Indonesian bus passenger Edi Setiono, 41, and lorry driver A Majid Sadar Mohd, 59 of Taman Desa Permai, Gemas, Negri Sembilan.

“The bus driver and passenger died on the spot while the lorry driver died at the Kulai Hospital of a heart attack,” said Kulaijaya police chief Supt Zulkefly Yahya when contacted.

Thirteen passengers were injured and sent to the Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital for treatment, he added.

He said the accident occurred when the bus, which was on its way from Penang to Johor Baru with 21 passengers who were mostly Indonesians, crashed into the back of the trailer lorry on the left lane.

Zulkefly said the case was being investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
