The Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) has set up an Inquiry Committee to gather and study all investigation reports and information on the accident at Genting Highlands which killed 37 people on Aug 21.

The Spad chairperson said in a statement yesterday said the inquiry committee, to be headed by Spad chief executive officer Mohd Nur Ismail Kamal, would also give suggestions and recommendations to the government so as to avoid similar incidents in the future.

The committee was set up following Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s request to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the tragedy.

According to the statement from Spad, the committee would comprise members from the police, Road Safety Department (JKJR), Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (Miros), Road Transport Department (JPJ), Public Works Department (JKR) and other relevant agencies identified by Spad.

In the accident, an express bus plunged 60 metres down a ravine at Km3.5 Genting Highlands on Aug 21, which also resulted in 16 other passengers sustaining serious injuries.

It was among the worst traffic accidents reported in the country.
