Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) will continue to monitor the status of electricity supply in the state and the Federal Territory of Labuan to ensure the stability of the Sabah interconnection grid.

SESB senior general manager (asset management) Ahmad Fuad Md Kasim said SESB is not expected to enforce electricity supply this weekend considering the lower energy demand compared to a normal working day.

“Electricity rationing will only be enforced if the existing electricity generation cannot meet the demand for electricity supply.

“The power supply rationing will be implemented alternately among the areas receiving their supply from the interconnection grid including major towns such as Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau,” he said in a statement in Kota Kinabalu today.

Ahmad Fuad said consumers are encouraged to refer to SESB’s website at   www.sesb.com.my to obtain information on electricity supply rationing which may involve their areas.

Prior to this, SESB had announced the rationing move involving more than 150,000 consumers in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan who experienced electricity supply disruption periodically since Wednesday following a breakdown in the Teesa and Rugading independent power producer (IPP) plants.
