In the past, Utusan Malaysia has criticised Anwar Ibrahim for many things, but this time they are going after his looks.

In a commentary today on Mingguan Malaysia , the newspaper's Sunday edition, looks different now compared to a few months ago.

"He is known for having a well defined cheeks over the years, but now has a full face without any wrinkles. In fact, his cheeks look a bit swollen or fleshy.

NONE "Based on the responses in social media and blogs, many believe that Anwar had undergone cosmetic surgery or a botox injection," wrote Awang Selamat, which is widely regarded as a pen name for the collective voice of Utusan's editors.

Awang Selamat opined that "unlike other leaders", Anwar had recently lost his skin tone and speculated that he may have gotten cosmetic surgery to look nicer and more stylish.

"He is inclined to look young, but Awang has to ask: If he really tried to change his face, what is more important? Looks or party?

"After the last general election, which saw Anwar's failure to lead the opposition alliance to victory as promised, he should be concentrating on rejuvenating his party and instilling confidence among the voters.

"But instead, he chooses to respond to other issues by changing his look. Let's leave it be," concluded the article.

Anwar's recent public appearance saw him wearing large-rim sunglasses, even indoors, to hide an eye infection.
