Contender wants end to Khairy's 'liberal' policies

Akramsyah Muammar Ubaidah says he wants to joust out incumbent Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin as the latter's liberal method undermines the party wing's original struggle.
"Most critical is his effort to make Umno Youth more liberal which is against the original aim of the party. His method also leans towards more compromise.
"By right, Umno Youth should remain as a pressure group and be firm in championing the Malay and Islam agenda," Akramsyah (right) was quoted as saying in Berita Harian today.
He added that his original aim was to go only for an exco position in Umno Youth but there was no strong contender willing to throw down the gauntlet at Khairy's feet.
"If we are not aligned to the current Umno Youth leadership, how can we serve under that leadership? That would make me a hypocrite," he was quoted as saying.
As such, Akramsyah said he finally decided to take on Khairy in this month's party polls.
The other three candidates vying for the Umno Youth top spot are Syed Rosli Syed Harman Jamalullail, Irwan Ambak Khalid Izhar and Abd Karim Ali.
