A debate will be held ahead of the MCA extraordinary general meeting (EGM) on Oct 20 to censure its deputy president Liow Tiong Lai.

At a press conference today, MCA Safeguard Party Assets Committee chief Yew Teong Look (below) challenged EGM requisitioner Edward Khoo for a debate, out of dissatisfaction over the party's decision against holding it during the event.

On Sept 30, Khoo and two others called for an EGM to censure deputy president Liow Tiong Lai and to revoke the party decision to shun all government posts, which Liow had claimed had made him a subject for revenge.

Khoo has been given three days to decide, and the freedom to choose the time and place he deems fit for the debate, he said.

"If you dare to call for an EGM, you must be man enough to take up the challenge," he said, adding Khoo has up to next Monday to respond, failing which the event will still be go on within next week.

Yew, however denied that the debate was aimed at criticising the leadership.

Khoo turned down the invitation, chiding Yew for being "impolite", by sending the invitation through "making noises" in newspapers.

He said the decision of not having debate session in the EGM was arrived by consensus during the central committee meeting without any dissenting voice.
