The problem arising out of an unbalanced racial mix in districts and housing estates is among issues for inclusion in the study for the setting up of a national unity consultative council soon.

NONEMinister in the Prime Minister's Department Joseph Kurup said he was aware of the matter where the current state of the housing system did not provide a good environment for racial integration.

"The cabinet has approved the setting up of the council and we will definitely overcome this problem. We will create several programmes which can unite the communities," he said after opening a programme in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said this when asked to comment on a question concerning areas which were merely tied down with certain communities, and did not have good racial mix such as Bukit Bintang and Seputeh (Chinese areas), Keramat and Ulu Kelang (majority Malay areas) and Brickfields (majority Indian area).

Kurup said the government would create a special programme dubbed 'Unity Hold' soon to create awareness on the importance of national unity because of this situation.

He also expressed gratitude that the racial unity in the country was still strong because Prime Minister Najib Razak adhered to a moderate attitude towards all communities.

This unity, he noted, received praise from China's President Xi Jinping yesterday, during the latter's three-day state visit to Malaysia.
