Minister claims Audit Dept's K-Pop report out of tune

your sayJoker: Whenever an audit is done, issues are raised by the auditor to the one audited. The audited is given an opportunity to refute any alleged wrongdoings by providing the necessary paperwork to back up its defence.

Since the Sports and Youth Ministry did no such thing, I am of the opinion that the auditor-general's version of the 'truth' is the correct one.

Odin: Former sports and youth minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek, the concert is said to have cost RM67 million. Do you agree or do you not agree? If you do not agree, what then was the cost?

Next. You have stated that RM20 million came from domestic and foreign corporate sponsors. Since the concert cost RM67 million, that means RM47 million came from Malaysian taxpayers. Is that correct or incorrect?

Since you have accused the auditor-general of having fluffed his figures, will you now enlighten the public as to the proper figures and to whom or which parties were payments made? At the same time, will you be so kind as to reveal the names of all the sponsors.

Unless you do all as expected, then you have blatantly lied, just as you have blatantly lied that the media personnel were bashed up at the Bersih 3·0 by demonstrators, when we all know the police personnel did it, and we are left with no choice but to conclude that you and many others down the line as well as your cronies have pocketed millions by staging the event.

Hytan: Ahmad Shabery, are you sure the money from sponsors in the National Sports Council account is specifically for this event?

From accounting control, these funds must be tagged properly otherwise these funds can be manipulated for other purposes - such fraudulent diversion of monies are not uncommon and we need a full and complete disclosure from the former minister, failing which it is a 'shabby' reply.

Rayfire: Please compare notes before making statements. Current Sports and Youth Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the ministry had to pay because the sponsors pulled out.

Now you are giving different story. Even if the money is from sponsors, RM1.6 million for a foreign pop group is a waste nevertheless. Stop spending money on worthless activities.

Wira: Shabery, do you know the meaning of accounts receivable? When you receive money from sponsors, it must be against the payment for the programme they sponsor. The auditor-general is correct. You cannot pluck RM20 million from somewhere (or perhaps from another programme) and say this is the money for the K-pop concert.

You guys are managing public money according to your own fancy. What is there to safeguard, that those moneys find their way to someone's pocket?

Cheong Sai Fah: The current communications minister isn't competent at communicating. Why would the ministry pay the money to the K-Pop group if it were to be paid by the sponsors?

At least KJ is being honest. I suspect that there were no sponsors in the first place.

The Stig: So corporate sponsors sponsored RM1.6 million and the ministry paid RM1.6 million whilst the K-Pop group received RM1.6 million.

Therefore, we should conclude that someone walked off with a cool RM1.6 million for themselves.

'K-Pop event now RM67mil, what else is gov't hiding?'

Hajile Leumas: Spending RM67.61 million of the rakyat's hard-earned money for the BN and Umno youth to have a good time sounds really ridiculous and outrageous.

The money could have been better spent alleviating the burden of those in abject poverty. Wonder how much of the RM67.61 million went into the "pockets" or personal enjoyment of the minister and his generals?

This is another case for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate. MACC's hands will be tied-up for the next two years just investigating the abnormalities highlighted in this year's Auditor-General's Report.

Kairos: RM 67million spent on a K-Pop event is criminal. This should anger every righteous and right-thinking Malaysian in the country irrespective of political inclinations. This is absolutely shameful and painful.

What kind of supporters will condone this blatant wastage of taxpayers' money when so much good for the rakyat can be done with this amount of money? If you still support the BN government after all this siphoning off of our money, then you are really dumb.

Sarkeethartee: So which is which now? They paid? He paid? She paid? Or WE paid?

Or is it they said they would pay or she or he will pay but they didn't pay and we ended up paying?

Or is it no one paid and now the rakyat paid. In the first place, why are we paying? And why so much? Someone must face the music for this blatant injustice.
