DAP leader 'forced' to quit for praising CM

Ferdtan: DAP's Goh Leong San has decided to quit as state opposition leader because two DAP assemblymen don't like him for praising the state CM Idris Haron? Seriously, is that the reason?

If all politicians really give up their power or authority readily on such a flimsy reason, then there should not be any ugly political fights that take no prisoners, as we see so often.

There is more to what Goh is saying. It looks like the path he made for himself is about to happen.

When he actually jumps, it is not his fault but the party's or his colleagues' fault for making him leave the party. Goh, give us a more creative excuse - we have been there before.

It is time to pass anti-hopping laws to stop lawmakers from leaving their party. To be fair to show that they had won the election on their own or party's strength, we should allow them to re-contest again.

At present, the law unjustifiably bars them from re-contesting the seat immediately, if they resign.

Giudice: Goh is the state DAP chairperson and he had to quit because two assemblypersons were not happy with his speech. Give me a break. At least come up with a credible excuse before becoming an "Independent".

MinahBulat: Let us be fair. Lee Hwa Beng was expelled for getting Lim Kit Siang to launch his book on PKFZ. In Goh's case his reason was that two chaps in DAP were unhappy that he showered accolades on the CM.

Now, really what is wrong about him showering accolades on a good CM of Malacca? If Goh is good, he is good. Just because two members are ‘unhappy' with him, is that reason for him to resign?

Has Goh been bought over and he going to be BN-friendly? He was voted on a DAP ticket. If he is truly honourable, he should resign and give up his seat. If he stands as an Independent, he is nothing but a traitor to the people who voted him in.

Sabahan: Be a man and quit your state seat to show that you have not been bribed.

Straight talk Joe 51: A matured and competent politician stands by what he says, and does not bow out when faced with criticism. Only if you can't defend what you said, then the real problem starts.

Terjah: What so wrong if he praises Malacca CM Idris Haron? If he does that with good intention, why not? We need to have a mature politician, not always opposing just because he is in the opposition.

Anonymously: The CM who is trying to close down Jonker Walk at the expense of the livelihood of hundreds, perhaps thousands, is deserving of praise? This guy has to go. It is worth losing a seat to boot him out.

DAP cannot have representatives of questionable principles and must act against Goh, immediately. As a voter, I am utterly disappointed.

NewMalaysia: Only known the CM for four months and you start singing his praise? It doesn't seem right at all when the CM has not even proved himself to be a capable leader. Must know what is true and honest praise and what is shoe polishing. No need to pretend to be innocent.

From what've you said, there's no substance and reason that the CM should be praised at all. Remember whose instruction it was to open up the famous tourist street in Malacca for motorists, which resulted in affecting the livelihood of many people doing business there?

Ramachandran Muniandy: When in the Opposition, it doesn't mean that we must condemn the ruling government. DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has many times praised the PM for certain actions but that doesn't mean he has forgotten he is in the Opposition.

What to praise and what to condemn, a good parliamentarian knows. That doesn't mean that these two DAP guys are not planning to crossover. DAP should deal cautiously with this situation.

Jaguh: It is only an excuse. This is the 'lull before the storm'. When the storm comes, they will jump. Nobody resigns just because someone else has a different opinion, even of another person.

It is much deeper than that. Anyway, at the end, expect two frogs to emerge out of this saga. Surprisingly this time, we will witness 'Chinese frogs'.

Botak Chin: When one does good deeds, what's wrong with recognising their efforts and saying kind things? Looks like Malaysian politics, and even the critics in these comments, haven't reached a certain level of maturity.

ONG: Nothing wrong with praising BN leaders, including those from Umno. However, when was the last time Goh Leong San and his gang praised their own DAP leaders?

Instead, I am only aware that he has been critical of his own party leaders. Funny guys, these fellows. They praise political opponents and criticise their political comrades.

2LAN: This says a lot about leaders when they cannot take criticism from their party mates. Petty minded people like him better sit at the back and let someone else lead. How can they ever hope to progress against BN when they are so super-sensitive and naive?

Amalgam: Political party members are really getting to be very petty and losing focus on what they are in politics for. What's wrong with acknowledging a man who deserves praise?

Are Opposition party members emulating Umno Baru, MCA, in just being ever ready to shoot the other guy down? No wonder our beloved country is going downhill.

BN cannot serve the rakyat and before Pakatan Rakyat gets a chance, they want to 'copy' the BN politicians. Come GE14, we must let independent, professional candidates come out and take the stand to lead us, and save Malaysia.

Mr KJ John: We need more maturity all round in order to serve the public good, which you all were elected for! You are from DAP but represent all citizens in your constituency. Think before you act irresponsibly.

Fair Play: Partisan politics at its worst. When credit is due, give credit, no matter from which side of the political divide.

Myop101: I think Goh is trying to create a cordial working environment with the state government. What is wrong with that? Anyway, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Let's wait and see how the new CM of Malacca performs. If he does well, then he deserves all the praise. If not, just give him strong and constructive criticism.

Korkor: Another DAP assemblyperson to be a BN-friendly Independent. The MCA disease has crept into DAP and soon more will follow suit. Last term, PKR suffered the most from such BN-friendly frogs but this time around, it's DAP's turn.

That's the folly for simply discarding tested people who had worked hard. But this time, DAP opted for untried people and one-third of their new state assemblypersons and MPs are new faces, especially in Selangor. Welcome to the power crazy world of politics.

I WONDER?: Wait, Goh only quits as the opposition leader in the Malacca state assembly. He hasn't quit DAP. He is still a DAP assemblyperson. He is not betraying DAP.
