Senator Syed Husin Ali was today rapped for questioning the position and credibility of Dewan Negara (senate) president in making decision concerning the Dewan Negara sitting.     

Senate president Abu Zahar Ujang personally rapped Syed Husin after the latter accused Abu Zahar of being unfair and biased towards certain senators during debates.      

Relating to the war of words between Syed Husin and Senator S Nallakaruppan regarding the behaviour of an opposition leader during the debate on the Prevention of Crime (Amendment and Extension) Bill 2013 yesterday, Abu Zahar said:     

"I cannot accept the statement made by the pro-opposition senator. In yesterday's scenario, I have studied the handsard on what was raised by Yang Berhormat Nalla (Nallakaruppan).     

"I found that what he said was something related to the PCA (Prevention of Crime Act). I cannot stop any senators from talking, but they must know their limits and responsibilities," he said before resuming the debate session.     

Abu Zahar said senators who were dissatisfied could lodge a police report.     

"(But) I don't want anybody to call me unfair, I cannot accept that. It is stipulated in the standing order that my decision (as senate president) is final, I'm very open-minded, but don't question the chair of the president, which is currently occupied by me," said.     

At a press conference later, Abu Zahar also advised all senators not to get emotional during the debate or while voicing out their opinions on certain issues at the sitting.
