'He thinks he has 60pct of votes? I hope he gets 6pct'

Umno Youth chief hopeful Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah's claim that he has a 60 percent chance of winning at the polls tomorrow was scorned by outgoing Penang Umno Youth chief Shaik Hussein Mydin.

"It's bullshit. I hope he have six percent. Sorry to say that he was one who divided the Malays. It's the incumbent Youth chief, Khairy Jamaluddin, who has kept the wing intact.

"Although we still fight for Malay rights, we do not marginalise other communities," a ruffled Shaik Hussein told Malaysiakini yesterday.

Shaik Hussein said only disgruntled members would support Akhramsyah (right), whose abilities are a far cry from his father, former Kedah Menteri Besar Sanusi Junid.

He also felt rather slighted that he was not aware of Akhramsyah's visit to Penang yesterday, saying he would have attended the event had he known about it.

"I would ask some questions," he quipped, adding he was after all, still the state Youth chief until the party's general assembly in December.

"I am saying all this not as because I am a supporter of Khairy but as someone who believes in Umno's struggles," he continued.

Shaik Hussein also criticised Akhramsyah's style of campaigning which saw him linking up with Malay rights pressure group Perkasa.

However the 40-year-old challenger, who is facing a five-cornered fight for the right to lead Umno Youth, had explained he was not openly campaigning but merely attending a meeting hosted by Perkasa in Seberang Jaya.

He is banking on his pro-Malay agenda to topple Khairy, who is seen as too liberal in his views.

About 70,000 Umno Youth members will be voting tomorrow, along with Wanita and Puteri members.

Meanwhile, 150,000 Umno members will go to the ballot box in their respective divisions to vote for the all-important vice-president's posts and the party's supreme council seats next Saturday.

Tony Pua being used

Akhramsyah held a press conference late yesterday accompanied by state Perkasa Youth chief Mohd Rizuad Mohd Azudin and Kelab Che Det members to condemn DAP publicity chief Tony Pua for labelling the Registrar of Societies and Utusan Malaysia as "running dogs" on their stance in the party's central executive committee re-election.

But this didn't go down well with Shaik Hussein. "He is just using Tony Pua to make himself known.

"Where was he all these years since 2008 when we in Penang were fighting bigger fish - DAP secretary-general and now Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng?"

"He should come here and battle with Lim, then I would say that he has some experience to go for the Umno Youth chief post," he snapped.

"He is just using Pua for his personal agenda. We don't need seasonal politicians here. Does he think the people, especially Umno Youth, are stupid?"

Shaik Hussein (left) challenged Akhramsyah to contest the Langkawi Umno Youth post to see if he could win, saying even this would be tough for him.

Akhramsyah was recently appointed the Bendang Baru Youth chief and some see him as a proxy of Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, although he has vehemently denied it.

"He has many things to learn. He is just at the kindergarten level," concluded Shaik Hussein, who himself will be contesting for the Bagan Umno chief post.
