Shabery ready to defend K-Pop expenditure 'live'

Former sports and youth minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek, there has been ample time given to your ministry to provide the evidence to refute the auditor's findings and you chose to only now dispute the matter (and also contrary to the explanation provided by the current minister).

I am looking forward to your "foaming" explanation.

SteveOh: As a former auditor with a couple of top accounting firms in London and Wellington and a public accountant and auditor in Kuala Lumpur, I can vouch that it is the auditor who has the final say on whether a financial statement is true and fair.

The auditor-general has the final say on public accounts and those who refute his report are merely trying to question the truth. It undermines the role of the auditor and I hope this is not another sample of the mindless endless possibilities in the country.

Not Confused: No matter that Ahmad Shabery might be lying, his willingness to be questioned in the Dewan Rakyat and that this is broadcast live on TV is a step in the right direction.

All ministers should submit themselves to such proceedings. It is normal in most mature democracies. Unfortunately, it is not likely to become a regular occurrence in this banana republic.

OMG!!: The simple and easiest thing to do is for the government aka the current youth minister is to submit a white paper to Parliament. But is the big mouth ready to resign if he is proven wrong?

Yahoo: I foresee this scenario. Shabery will say the sponsor/sponsors did promised to donate the money but were slow in doing so last December.

So the Sports and Youth Ministry had to foot the money first for the K-Pop concert. From now till the next parliament seating, he would be desperately calling all the GLCs (government-linked companies) or mysterious donors to come up the RM20 million so as to reimburse the money to the ministry. See no big deal, he will say.

Silence no longer an option, editor turns up heat on Zahid

TheSilentMajority: I have no doubt that the appointment of Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to head the Home Ministry was at the behest, no, at the demand of the ultras within Umno.

It's a 'let's show them who we are' bravado. To have a home minister who spews such nonsense only goes to anger, arouse and divide Malaysians, and of course Umno stands to gain the most. Or at least they think so from the increased seats in the Parliament post-GE13.

Since he indicates he is only minister to those who voted for Umno, we should then indicate that no taxation without representation and so pay our taxes to someone who actually represents us.

Aries46: I have yet to read his piece in theSun, but knowing Nades I rest assured that he does not mince his words nor waver on his stand and Umno's ‘shoot first' Zahid would not want to mess with him as former minister Azlina Othman Said, MB Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo and some other Umno 'has-beens' found out the hard way.

What is ironic is that Umno that blames all and sundry for deserting it and its minions in the recent past are oblivious to the fact that one Zahid alone is good enough to rid even the self-serving remnants that linger on for the crumbs and there is any number of Zahids in Umno.

No Malaysian wants to be accosted by gangsters or be a victim of criminals but neither do they condone shooting them down blindly.

There are relevant laws such as the Penal Code, criminal justice systems, etc, to deal with it in a civilised manner and those that feel otherwise have to be accountable for flouting the legal process.

Fernz: Zahid has no business being in the cabinet. Deputy minister P Waythamoorthy should tell him to resign for bringing the cabinet and the government and police into public disrepute and embarrassing the prime minister, compromising his position and putting him in a very difficult position.
