The Terengganu government will organise a special squid catching event for local and foreign media practitioners in May 2014 at several locations including Kemaman, Marang, Besut, Setiu and Kuala Terengganu.    

 

State Tourism, Information, Communication and Culture Committee chairperson Mohd Jidin Shafee said the programme, costing RM500,000, was aimed at introducing squid catching as a tourist activity for the Visit Terengganu Year 2013 and Visit Malaysia Year 2014.      

“We’ll invite as many media practitioners as possible so that they can promote it globally as an attractive activity in Terengganu,” he said during a press conference on the World Gamelan Festival in Kuala Terengganu today.     

Mohd Jidin said about 60,000 visitors were expected for the three-day festival starting Oct 25 at Dataran Shahbandar, Kuala Terengganu.   

“There will be seven local and foreign groups each,” he said.

Among the foreign groups are Gamelan Melayu Nusantara, Nottingham, Europe; Gamelan Conservatory of China, Gondrong Gunarto and Gamelan Sangrila from Jawa and Bali (Indonesia) respectively.   

The local groups included Gamelan Hands Percussion, Gamelan Rhythms in Bronze, Gamelan Swakarya Pak Ngah Production and Alkis Gelmawan.
