The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has opened all sluice gates in the eastern area to drain excess water after several hours of heavy rain over the capital.

Xinhua news agency reported the downpours, which began at around 1am today, are likely to continue for the next few days.

BMA drainage office chief Adisak Khantee said the city saw the maximum accumulated rainfall in Min Buri (80 millilitres) and Din Daeng (83 millimetres), while water level in canals were on the rise.

Officials will continue to monitor the situation as high inflows of seawater are forecast for tomorrow.
