Construction of Jakarta’s monorail is expected to cost between US$900 million to US$1.5 billion, Indonesian news agency Antara reported.

“There will be a total of 200 wagons which will be divided between the blue line and the green line. Each monorail train will have six to eight wagons,” PT Jakarta Monorail chief executive officer Edward Soeryadjaya said yesterday.

Each train will be able to carry up to 800,000 passengers.

PT Jakarta Monorail spokesperson Bovananto said the monorail is expected to be operational by 2015.

Train tickets will be priced at Rp9,000 (about US$0.81) and covers a 30km route comprising the 14.5km Green Lane (Kuningan, Dukuh Atas, Pejompongan, Senayan, Gatot Subroto, SCBD) and 15.5km Blue Lane (Kampung Malayu, Tebet, Casablanca, Tanang Abang, Mall Taman Aggrek Mall).

Bovananto said PT Monorail’s new consortium comprises 90 percent new investors and 10 percent old ones.

“The new investors are national private companies. Thirty percent of the project’s financing will be borne by the consortium and the remaining 70 percent by the banking sector,” he said.

The Green Lane phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2015 and the Blue Lane by 2016.
