While the MACC has not received any reports of money politics in Umno according to the New Straits Times citing sources, the Berita Harian reports two divisions allege such practices exist.

NST quoted MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed as commending Umno's efforts to amend its party constitution regarding the election of its leaders, saying that the present system is more transparent and avoids incidences of money politics.

However the Berita Harian reports the Lembah Pantai and Pasir Salak divisions feel differently.

Lembah Pantai's spokesperson cum division committee member Mohyiddin Mohammad said an objection had been submitted against an incumbent division leader to the election committee, the party's disciplinary board and party headquarters on Sept 4.

Mohyiddin told the daily that a complaint was also lodged against the deputy and a party Supreme Council member.

He hoped the party leadership would intervene to resolve the matter before Saturday's divisional and Supreme Council election.

In Pasir Salak, a candidate for the Umno Youth division leader's post, Mohd Nazari Sabran, said he will submit a report to the party's disciplinary committee alleging money politics in the division where the winner had handed items to delegates during the campaign period.

However Dr Faizal Tajuddin who won the Pasir Salak Umno Youth chief post, and who is also the son of division chief Tajuddin Abdul Rahim, has said there is no basis to the allegations.
