An event management company today withdrew a RM1.98 million civil suit against Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin in relation to Karnival Sihat 3S in Papar, Sabah, two years ago.

High Court Judge Yeoh Wee Siam allowed the application by Universal Credential Sdn Bhd to withdraw the civil suit with costs.

Counsel Raihanah Ashriqin Ariffin, who was representing Deputy Works Minister Rosnah, told the media that the court then struck out the suit.

She said that the event management company withdrew the civil suit because it wanted to file a new suit to name more defendants.

On Aug 29, the company filed a suit against Rosnah naming her as defendant to demand RM1.98 million damages for alleged breach of agreement in relation to Karnival 3S from Dec 9-11, 2011 at Padang Pekan Papar, Papar, Sabah.

In the statement of claim, the company alleged that it was asked to organise a health carnival by Rosnah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Papar.

It claimed to have met Rosnah in June 2010 at the Health Ministry, Putrajaya where she promised to pay the expenses and cost of organising and managing the carnival.

The event management company also claimed that after the carnival was over, defendant Rosnah had refused to pay the balance amounting RM482,767.84.

It is claiming RM500,000 general damages for breach of contract, RM1 million exemplary and aggravated damages and RM482,767.84 special damages, interest and costs.

Rosnah, in her statement of defence dated Oct 3, said the statement of claim filed by the company is a slander as it had failed to show proof of an agreement between them.

The then-deputy health minister and MP for Papar said she was just doing her job to help the company get sponsorship and support from various parties via a supporting letter dated Oct 14, 2011.
